I’ve never considered myself a design geek. My left brain can arm-wrestle with my right brain and win - and vice-versa.
I serendipitously landed in the online world on the suit side of the fence at the start of my career - my design legs would come a little later. I am self-taught and self-sufficient. I learn, I adapt and I trust my instincts.

MY DESIGN Philosophy

AIM HIGHER

This tagline came about after a professional debate with a colleague. Their stance was a firm: 'It's too hard.  It can't be done.'  Mine was simply 'Aim Higher'.
I believe the real challenge in design is often the naysayers. When you reach a plateau, look for new heights. Take the too-hards and find another way. Always strive to push the limits just that much more. Even if you fail, you will succeed in knowing what not to do next time. Aiming higher is a choice.

IT'S IN THE DETAILS

Sometimes it can be the smallest things that can make the difference. By placing yourself in the user's shoes, you will experience the environs of the product first hand. Without this perspective, you miss the minutiae that can often alter the entire user experience. Always take the time to zoom in from the big picture.

BEAUTY IS FUNCTIONAL

People can be distracted by beauty, often forgoing function in its favour - but I don't believe the two have to be mutually exclusive. I thrive and pride myself on creating websites that are functional in their mechanics and beautiful in their design. A lot of it relies on instinct that is finely interwoven with knowledge, that is securely based in science. It comes back to the right and left brain - I believe both are vital in experience design.
